The Dubrovnik Summer Festival is more than a festival, it’s a way of life, a time that the whole city comes alive, an event that is looked forward to for a year, quite simply the Dubrovnik Summer Festival is woven into every thread of the city. Every corner of the city becomes a stage, every stone a background and every flight of steps a space for the audience to use, the city is a living theatre.

The opening night, the 10th of July, is a special night, a night when the flag of Libertas is raised and the games can begin until the 25th of August when the flag is lowered. The Dubrovnik Summer Festival was founded in 1950 and since 1956 it has been a member of the European Festivals Association. It is the most representative cultural manifestation in Croatia and one of the largest and most celebrated cultural events in Europe: an irresistible outpouring of music, theatre and dance that attracts an all-star line up of international performers and an ever-increasing number of visitors to the unique setting of the indoor and open-air stages of the Renaissance city. It is an inevitable meeting point of the most eminent world artists who literally come from all continents and countries. The special charm of the Festival is that everything happens in the natural ambience of the city. In the confined spaces of the small city there is a very intimate exchange between the artist and audience. A festival that you’ll never forget and one that you’ll look forward to for another year.
