Out of the places in the Dubrovnik area Cavat has one of the richest and longest histories, this is a city that was formed long before Dubrovnik was even dreamt off. In fact Dubrovnik owes a lot to Cavtat and its inhabitants, without them it simply wouldn’t exist. In 614 residents of Cavtat, or Epidaurus, searched the region for a well protected area and the land that Dubrovnik now stands on was chosen.
