One Day in Dubrovnik

alt

If you arrive in Dubrovnik on a cruise ship or maybe as part of a tour of the country then you’ll need to know how best to maximise your time in the destination. Dubrovnik has many advantages for day trippers, the most important being that many of the city’s highlights are inside the ancient walled city, it’s like having a clear defined area in which to explore, if you’ve left the city walls you’ve gone too far!

Not to miss

Take a stroll along the main street of the old city, the Stradun, the artery of the city in more ways than one. Enjoy a coffee in one of the many cafés and watch the world go by.

Walk the city walls, the symbol of the city and recognised all over the world. As the walls are almost two kilometres long and tend to be hot due to the lack of shade it’s maybe advisable to walk half the walls. Which ever way you walk the views will leave you breathless.

Visit a museum and learn something of the history of the ancient city. Definitely one of the A list museums is the Rector’s Palace, feel the history wash over you and experience how the head of the city, the Rector, lived and spent his days.

Swim on the Banje beach. The favourite beach of many locals and tourists the Banje beach is just outside of the city and offers glorious views to the city and the island of Lokrum. Don’t forget to pack your swimming costume; it will be a swim you will never forget.

Indulge your taste buds with some local and traditional cuisine. Restaurants are plentiful in the city and the vast majority of them serve local specialities.

Don’t forget to find time to buy a souvenir of your time in the pearl of the Adriatic.
